Types of Marking Tool
Surface Gauge
The term "surface gauge" refers to a marking tool used to mark a line of layout work on a surface plate.
There are two types of surface gauges, a fixed type surface gauge and a universal surface gauge. A fixed type surface gauge is made of a substantial base, a straight-fix spindle, a scriber with a close fit, and a clamp nut.
Scriber
Scribners are critical marking instruments in a mechanical workshops. A scriber is a sharp, hard steel instrument used to trace outlines on metalwork. It has a knurled body and a conical point with an angle of 159 degrees. The steel rule moves with the proper pressure, while the scriber is angled in the direction of the movement. In addition, it should always have a pointed edge. Scribers' points are dangerously sharp, so to prevent injuries, always place a cork on the scribner’s point when it’s not in use.
Prick Punch
Prick punches are steel layout marking instruments that range in size from 100 to 150 mm. It is lengthy and has strong, tempered ends on both sides. Its point is ground at an angle between 30° and 60 °. It punches holes in the middle and sets tiny dots on layout lines.
Center Punch
A center punch is similar to a prick punch, but its point is ground at 90 °. It simplifies the process of precise drilling to create markings larger than the prick punch. Some center punches have a striking mechanism built into the grip, making them automatic. The mark is created when the striking mechanism's downward pressure is released into the handle.
Divider
A divider marks out geometrical textures like circles, segments, and squares. Dividers can also transfer textures. The tool steel tips on a divider are hardened and tempered. It is categorized based on how many points it can open.
Trammel
A trammel is a marking instrument used to create larger, more complex circles than a divider can. The length of the trammel points is connected to a bar.
Hermaphrodite Caliper
The hermaphrodite caliper is used to locate the center of an incompletely round or cast work's end. Jenny Caliper is another name for a Hermaphrodite Caliper. A hermaphordite caliper is used to indicate inner and outer margins’ parallel lines, or to find the center of a circle of bars.
Laser Marking Machine
A laser marking machine uses lasers to engrave markings on various surfaces. The laser beams evaporate surfaces to reveal deeper material, which creates visible markings. The main types of laser machines are teh CO2 laser marking machine and the fiber laser marking machine.
Laser machines are the best options for long-lasting marks, and have high-speed, accurate effectiveness. Laser machines are used in packaging, plumbing components, medical devices, and computer keyboards.
Electrolyte Marking Machines
The electrolyte marking machine uses the electrochemical etching method. It designs a stencil module, and then uses electric voltage to stamp on a product's surface. Electrolytic marking is affordable, dependable, and accurate. The material is not corroded or affected negatively in any other way after being marked. Using and maintaining electrolyte machines is simple. They don’t require meticulous cleaning and are relatively user friendly.
